We Set Sail for New England for the 6th Annual JemCon on September 25 & 26,
2010 at the Comfort Inn in Manchester, New Hampshire!
The convention featured special guests Samantha Newark and Britta Phillips (the speaking voice of Jem/Jerrica and the singing voice of Jem, respectively), Ellen Bernfeld (the singing voice of Pizzazz), Jem song writer, Anne Bryant and Jem Story writer, Mr. Michael Charles Hill. In addition there were fan panels, workshops, dealers, and displays which included rare prototypes and custom dolls.
We were also incredibly honored to be the hosts of a very special JemCon wedding!
On Friday there was a catered Meet 'N Greet buffet dinner with an outrageous Jem™ trivia contest.
Saturday held two guest panels; the first of which was a brief introduction to Jem (and each other) by both Jem-ladies, Samantha Newark and Britta Phillips. Saturday's second guest panel followed after lunch with a full line-up of Sam and Britta, Anne Bryant, and Ellen Bernfeld, and convention newbie, Mr. Michael Charles Hill. The third guest panel on Sunday saw a return of all guests dishing even more dirt from Jem history.
The convention continued throughout Saturday evening with cosplay entertainment, Jem™ Karaoke (lead again by the ever-ready and super-enthusiastic Ellen Bernfeld and Britta Phillips), a fantastic Battle of the Bands Masquerade and disco!
The JemCon 2010 Charity Auction raised $1405 for VSA Arts of New Hampshire, who work to assure equal access to the to arts for everybody and to provide ways for people with disabilities to learn through, participate in and enjoy creative experiences.

JEMCON 2010 STAFF
| Name | Staff Position |
Sean Gaff |
Con Chair (messageboard ID = svgbaritone)
Sean Gaff aka svgbaritone, is from MA and works as a Theatrical Musical Director/Pianist. Sean's obsession with Jem began immediately when it aired in 1985. His late mother was very supportive of his new found love and encouraged his creativity. His collection is a living memorial to her and the bond they will forever share through Jem. After attending and sewing fashions for JemCon 2007 he found himself compelled to devote more time to JemCon and the Jem community, where he's made many amazing friends. Without Jem in his life, Sean doesn't believe he would have ever become a creative person nor a musician/performer. Check out his website: www.foreverjem.com |
Stefan Spierings |
Vice-Chair (messageboard ID = jemboyholland)
Stefan is 36 years old and currently living in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Stefan became a Jem fan when the series was re-run in 1988 in the Netherlands. Stefan and his cousin Rob taped every show aired and watched them over and over and over. At that time the dolls were all priced-down so Stefan and Rob tried to find as many as possibble, until they had disappeared from the shelves by the end of 1989. In 2004 Stefan began collecting again and in 2007 he attended his first JemCon! For Stefan and Rob, JemCon has been THE BEST experience! They've met many fellow fans from all over the world and became part of a very warm family! Stefan's personal JemCon highlight, by far, was meeting Christy Marx! Hosting JemCon 2011 "Makin' it Happen in Holland" is going be a new highlight for Stefan being part of the Jem community! |
Beverley Hooton |
Webmistress (messageboard ID = Bob)
Affectionately known as "Bob" by friends and family, Bob has been a dedicated fan of Jem since the age of 7. She started collecting Jem merchandise seriously in 2002 after the discovery of the internet and the realisation that Jem extended beyond the run of season 1 episodes originaly aired in the UK. As webmaster of: www.jemthingsandstuff.co.uk, Bob enjoys being creative and artistic. She credits Jem with sparking her interest in webdesign, which lead to a career move early in 2008. Bob now works as web technician for a Specialist Technology College while studying part-time for a Degree in Internet & Business Technologies. In 2004 Bob made 10 full-sized Holograms and Misfits costumes for her friends to wear on her birthday "Jem Night." She is looking forward to continuing this creative streak and making more costumes for her twin sister Jacki and herself to wear at JemCon 2010! |
Shevona M |
Senior Advisor (messageboard ID = shevonabmx)
Shevona is from MI and works for a large Marketing Research firm. She has loved Jem since she was a little girl, since then she has acquired the entire produced Jem line. Shevona's favorite episode is 'Mid Summer's Night Madness' and her favorite character is Jerrica. She loves to make OOAK Jem dolls, fashions and accessories. Feel free to ask her anything Jem related, nothing is too bizarre! For more info on Shevona's work, check out her website: www.beyondjem.com |
Luis Trujillo |
Public Relations (messageboard ID = Luis)
Originally from Puerto Rico, Luis moved to the United States in 1994 where he now resides in Debalk, IL. Luis has loved the cartoon since he was a kid, especially the music! Later on, he develop an "addiction" to the toy line, making him an official Jemboy! Luis previously served on the staff of JemCon 2007 and is thrilled to be re-joining the staff for JemCon 2010! |
Rachael Prins |
Fashion Coordinator (messageboard ID = Jemgirl)
Rachael Prins also known as "Jemgirl' lives in Melbourne, Australia and has been a Jem fan since the first show aired on TV. Later when the internet allowed her to collect the dolls beyond the odd lucky find at markets and toy fairs, she soon got interested in taking her creativity into customizing dolls and has turned her passion into a career as a doll customizer where she customizes everything from the head to toe on a doll. Rachael also works as a musician, composing and producing her own music along with some voice over work and finds this another element of Jem that has inspired her to do so. "There's so many elements of Jem with the dolls, the show and the music that seam as though Jem was made for me!" Rachael will be producing the fashions for the event. You can check out her website: http://jemgirl.com and her new Jem podcast: http://jemcast.com |
Ter Brazier |
Display Coordinator (messageboard ID = Ter)
Ter's first Jem experience was when he was in first grade. His sister rented a Jem VHS from the local Video Watch store and when the first note of the theme song began, he was hooked. Since then it was a snowball effect; Ter began collecting Jem dolls when he was in third grade when he found Jem and Synergy sitting on a shelf at an antique store. Ter begged to take them home. His parents bought them for him, as they always supported his hobbies interests without question. Ter first got into OOAKing when he was 17 with his first OOAK (One Of A Kind) being a Rock N' Romance Jem re-paint. Ter's boyfriend, Ryan, has always supported him with his hobby and Ryan helps Ter OOAK frequently (though he’s not a hardcore Jem fan as Ter). Ter focuses mainly on re-rooting and re-painting, though he's currently trying his hand at sewing fashions. Ter says "sewing is a lot harder than it seems!" |
Ally Lewis |
Display Liaison (messageboard ID = charmgal)
Ally hails from Birmingham Michigan. Her love of dolls started in childhood, and she has been crazy about Jem ever since she first saw the cartoon and received her first Jem doll. Soon, she and her friends were making up their own Jem eps and recording them on audio tapes complete with songs. In college, she wrote an essay comparing and contrasting Jem and Madonna in aspects from fashion to charity work. After graduating from Wayne State Universtity with honors in Liberal Arts, she started working at Barnes and Noble bookstore as a retail seller where she has remained the last 12 years. Most recently, she started Jemarama, a sale/trade buisness for all kinds of Jem items. Besides Jem, Ally is also interested in fashion modelling, singing, acting, watching basketball, making doll scenes, and writing. Ally has been in many plays and operettas. She has also had poems and essays published in literary magazines and the Detroit Free Press. Ally writes Jem Fan-Fic and loves chatting online about Jem. This will be her fifth Jem Convention |
Olga Ladas-Best |
Graphics Coordinator (messageboard ID = Amjara)
Olga hails from Ontario, Canada. She has been a Jem fan since the cartoon first hit the airwaves and still loves Jem as much as she did then, if not more! When on vacation in 1985, at a Toys "R" Us store she first spotted the Jem dolls, her mom said to get Pizzazz because she came with a music tape but Olga wanted Jem because the flashing earrings and two outfits were "cooler". A house fire in 1998 wiped out her beloved Jem collection (which was complete at the time), but thanks to the internet she now has an almost complete collection once again. Olga was also thrilled when Jem came to DVD, but is still wishing like all Jem fans that they will put out the last part of season 3. Her favorite episodes are "For Your Consideration" and "And The Winner Is". Her favorite Jem song is "Only The Beginning". Olga has been drawing and digitally painting Jem characters now for over a decade and was positively thrilled to become part of JemCon as a Jem artist and meet so many other wonderful Jem lovers over the years online. She hopes to continue creating Jem art for years to come. To see more of her artwork check out her DeviantART page at: http://amjara.deviantart.com/ |
Nancy Suavé |
Guest Liaison (messageboard ID = nancy)
Nancy hails From a little town called Princeville, QC, Canada. Nancy has been a Jem fan since the very beginning! Watching Jem in both English and French, inspired her to go to college to study languages. Nancy is fluent in both English and French! Nancy finds comfort in watching Jem to help her through difficult times in her life. She likes everything Jem, but two songs in particular make her think about her late Grandmother and Mother: "You're Always There In My Heart" and "Something Is Missing." |

JemCon 2010 Entertainment :: The Jem Project
The Jem Project was founded in 2002 by a group of friends who had two common interests: costuming and Jem. Their first cabaret-style performance was for "The Red & White Show" for Anime North 2002 and later that year, they expanded to include The Misfits. They entered the masquerade competition at Toronto Trek 2002, with "Glitter 'n' Gold" and "Takin' It All". The Jem Project won four awards that year; "Best Battle of the Bands" for both performances, "Best Prop Work" for the instruments that were created, and "Best Interpretation" of the dresses worn. In 2003, The Jem Project planned their biggest show yet; "The Truly Outrageous Tour!" This time, all the bands were represented on stage, blending the songs together to have the bands flow onto the stage and also play out the story of Jem through a concert format. They performed for the first time that year with live singing mixed with lip sync. The Jem Project went on a few years of hiatus as the founder, Sandra Cosimano Smiley, worked to find a new venue and new actors to fill characters. The production moved from Buffalo, NY (Sandra was American, the rest of the cast was Canadian) to Baltimore, MD. With Sandra's husband also into costuming, they worked together to bring The Jem Project back on stage while Sandra made appearances at different conventions in new costumes to advertise the group. In 2009, The Jem Project came back to the stage at Dragon*Con with their most elaborate costumes yet. "Welcome to the Mardi Gras!" was a hit with all the Jem fans. Sandra was also interviewed for CNN Radio during the convention, with questions about costuming and The Jem Project. Sandra, had always wanted to play Jem on stage since she fell in love with the show back in 1985. With her love of costuming and with the support of her husband (who now plays Riot) and her friends (the new Holograms), these dreams have come true again. They are all looking forward to attending their first JemCon, and hope everyone enjoys their show! Find out more about The Jem Project and follow them on Facebook, MySpace and LiveJournal. |

JemCon 2010 Entertainment :: Lindsey Bombard as "Danse"
Lindsey began dancing as a small child over 20 years ago with ballet being her main area of interest and passionate expertise. She is currently a graduate student at Boston's Emerson College where she is earning her masters degree in Theater Education. In addition, Lindsey works in various schools and theaters both directing and choreographing, and even in her spare time Lindsey's enthusiam for the creative arts carries over where she continues to act, sing and dance as much as possible! Her interest in Jem began by chance, when her friend Sean, (aka svgbaritone) gave her a Danse doll for her birthday. Since then, her collection has grown and her fascination in Jem has peaked. Lindsey has spent much time admiring the elaborate animation that brought Danse's dance to life and says that if she could be a Jem character, it would indeed be Danse, complete with rainbow hair! Lindsey is honored to be at JemCon 2010 to share with us, the inspirational magic that is Danse! |
